On Thursday April 19, track athletes competed in their events at the Area Competition at PSJA Stadium. The students who qualified to Area were Jayla Santa Maria in Long Jump, Jorge Ayala in Shot Put, Jalen Garza in the 100 meter dash, Mia Noyola in the 1600 meters run, and Karina Alfaro in 4×1 relay.

“I practiced everyday and had a great outcome.” junior, Jalen Garza said.

Many of the student athletes practiced for many hours to ensure they got the results they strived for.

“I practice during 5th athletics period and I also stay after school for like 2 more hours, so I’m able to hit a 160 on discus and a 55 for shot put. I wasn’t able to meet my goals, but that’s what practice is for,” junior Jorge Ayala, said.

Area was just the first step, now Ayala and senior Jayla Santa Maria are advancing to Regionals.

“It was done individually and it feels good to know you have another chance to make it further in long jump. But overall it’s a great feeling knowing I still have one more chance.” senior Jayla Santa Maria, said.
