Tennis team clinches District title; remains undefeated in District play

Earlier this month, the tennis team won the  District title and qualified to compete in the playoffs. The boys team also earned the district title for the fifth consecutive season.

“ They accomplished a lot for this. We prepared by practicing during the summer,” Coach Cavazos said. ” We played approximately seven non-district games to prepare us. We played schools like

McAllen Memorial and Zapata.  Those are highly ranked schools.”

Tennis player, Joel Colunga felt the team did good during district play by remaining undefeated.

“We beat every team in the district,” Colunga said.  “We lost against to Laredo in the playoffs in the second round.”

Despite the Team Tennis season ending, the coaches and players look forward to their competitions in the Spring.

“Now that they’ve seen the competition in the area round, that’s what they are going to be expecting when they go to Regionals in the Spring for the individuals and double season,” Cavazos said.
