Before studying at the Massachusets Institiute of Technology (MIT) this past summer, Bryan Lopez finished the last school year placing sixth at the UIL math state competition in Austin.

“It was an honor placing there, and I felt less nervous than at regionals,” Lopez said.

In order to qualify at the state competition, Lopez reviewed all of his past tests with the help of his sponsor, Ms. Delaganis.

“He would come in at least once a week if not two or three times a week to go over material to prep him,” Delaganis said.

Lopez’s favorite subject is Math and he has been competing in these types of events since he was in the second grade.
