BOA Finals

On September 30 Band placed in the top ten  at the Bands of America (BOA) competition against 27 different talented high schools.

“Just making finals was really great for us,” Junior, Katina Lopez-Villareal, said.

From 2004 to 2014 the Finals for BOA were in the San Antonio area. It was not until 2015 that the finals for BOA were in Mcallen.

“In 2004 to 2014, there wasn’t a BOA Regional down here in the valley, it was only in San Antonio,” Band Director, Jason Rogers, said. “They brought the BOA regional down here in 2015.”

Unlike 2015 where the music was more lyrical and not as popular in the mainstream, this year’s pieces of music were harder to make it sound like  a genre of songs that are consisted of popular music.

“It’s hard to make popular music sound good,” Rogers said, “I thought this group was ready for it.”

Whether the pieces of music are lyrical or have more popular music, the band is ready to show everyone they’re back and better than ever.

“We wanna show the other bands we’re here and we’re back.” Junior, Andrea Gonzalez, said.
