Major Earthquake Hits Mexico

Last month, a major earthquake hit the capital of Mexico and its surrounding areas, and is considered one of the worst in the history of the country. Many people were affected including some teachers and students.

“ I panicked because my grandmother lives over there with my aunt and family.” sophomore, Jimena Diaz said

At school, an effort was made to bring some relief to Mexico and its affected areas. Ms. Guerra, SNHS sponsor, brought up the idea to the Spanish National Honor Society, and the Spanish department, that they should collect as many water bottles, and other needed items, so that they could be sent to where they are needed.

“We wanted to donate because we know the need and also because we never know  if we’ll be in the same situation as they are. I think and I hope that if something were to happen in the valley to us, I’d want help for my people, my community, my family. “ Spanish teacher, Ms. Blanca Hernandez said.

Students were also encouraged to do their part and bring in what they could, whether it was water bottle cases, diapers, or canned foods.

“I felt like I needed to help out, and it actually made me feel pretty happy because people that were affected needed donations.” sophomore, Juan Reyna said.
