Two weeks ago, ROTC held the Cadet of the Year competition. Eligible participants had once been Cadet of the Month this school year.

“There were over 250 questions that students had to study and prepare for before they went to a competition where they competed against their peers to win,” Major Noyola said.

These competitions help acknowledge cadets who have outstanding military knowledge and skills.

“It’s a way to acknowledge the hard work of a lot of our cadets and also to let them know, ‘Hey, we see you and we acknowledge all your talent and your leadership abilities and the effort that you put into the program,’” Sergeant First Class Reyes said.

For this competition, only one cadet could walk out as the winner. Sophomore Erik Garcia from Headquarters company, winner of the December Cadet of the Month competition was awarded the honorary title of Cadet of the Year.

“I won Cadet of the Month in December. I do feel recognized for my hard work.” Cadet of the Year Erik Garcia said.
