Academic Awards were held last week in the PAC to reward students who have excelled in Academics this school year.

“At the end of each year, students have always been rewarded for their Academic success,” Head Counselor Mrs. Martinez-Alvarado said.

Underclassmen experienced this ceremony for the first time in their high school experience.

“I got an award for Outstanding Leadership along with an award recognizing my time in the JROTC Color Guard team. I liked the awards, and I hope I can get more awards later on,” freshman Alisamy Solis said.

Upperclassmen not only received their Academic awards, but Seniors were also recognized for receiving scholarships.

“I got the Excellence awards for Math, Science, History and English. For my scholarships, I got the Dean’s Excellence from St. Edward’s which was for $86,000 and  the St. Mary’s University Gateway scholarship for $96,000. I felt extremely proud that I was able to get these awards and scholarships,” Senior Zoey Drexler said.

Another Senior who received scholarship recognition was Kimberly Reynoso.

“I got the Gateway scholarship from St. Mary’s for $78,000. I did not expect that much money, but I’m happy that I did receive it,” senior Kimberly Reynoso said. “I think my hard work paid off because I had to balance a lot of school and extracurriculars.”

The award ceremonies will continue to recognized the success of students for years to come.

“Our award ceremonies will be continuing throughout the years because we believe that students should be rewarded at the end of the school year for all their hard work and other success throughout the academic school year,” Martinez-Alvarado said.
