In honor of Dr.Seuss and National Read Across America Week, the library has been holding a birdhouse assembly contest in order to promote reading.

In this contest the students were given a free birdhouse kit to assemble and paint.  They had to paint it the color of the book the student was reading.

“In order to promote reading, we tried to integrate activities for the kids that they might find interesting and worthwhile,” Librarian Mrs. Mendoza said.

When the birdhouses are judged at the end of the month, they will be judged on authenticity, uniqueness and creativity as well as an essay.

“The kids will have had an opportunity to use their Spring Break to really do a good job on them,” Mendoza said.

The prizes for the winners will be goody baskets with educational materials such as books, lanyards, flash drives and some snacks.
