The JROTC department held a bootcamp for children from the ages of 4 to 13  on October 6th.

“We didn’t expect the number of kids that showed up. We were all pretty surprised. There was about 40 kids,” junior, Jackie Medina said.

This event was a fundraiser and also a community outreach for recruiting officers and JROTC members.

“It took 2 months to prepare the whole event. We had to spread the word to the community,”Battalion Commander, Benito Ibanez said.

This outreach allowed the cadets to instruct the children.

“What we tried to teach them was teamwork. We put them into groups of four so that they could maneuver together. For example, flipping tire, we wanted to help them see the benefits of working together,” Major Noyola said.

Because of the great turnout, the cadets plan to continue this event next year.
