NHS members gather with the organizer of the event.

On September 1st members of the National Honor Society (NHS) volunteered at NAVEH’S  Children Conquering Cancer 5k walk.

This event was organized to support children ages 0-12 years old that have survived cancer and their family members.

“The run was put together to help bring people closer together,” Senior NHS Officer,  Jose Ivan Salas said.

The collaboration of NHS and NAVEHS 5K started last year with the former NHS officers who wanted to bring more awareness to this cause.

“We called them and it just so happened to be that they were doing a 5k, and we were able to help them out,”  NHS sponsor, Kendra De la Garza-Garcia said.

The collaboration of the organizations  allowed the volunteers to receive community service hours as well as interact with others.

“ Cheering on the runners and then giving the medals out at the finish line was my favorite part,” Senior, Maria Raya said.
