One of the Jazz bands competed at the Mcallen Tx, McJazz Fest on May 5th and received 1st place.

“They judged us on our rhythm, beats, and on the solos,” junior Andrea Gonzalez, said.

The band felt more accomplished this year.

“It’s the first time we got first place,”  Assistant Band Director, Ivry Moyeda said, “I felt awesome and super proud of my kids.”

Some were more nervous than others because they had to to learn a new instrument.

“I was extremely nervous because I was playing a new instrument. I was afraid of cracking a note or making a squeak,” senior Samantha Salazar, said.

As for next year, the Jazz band is expected to keep the first place title.

“Yeah we have a little more pressure so that way we can keep going,” Moyeda said.
