On January 13th, the Mock Trial team competed at the Hidalgo County Courthouse regional competition where they took home the championship title and are officially statebound. Furthermore, a couple of Bobcats were also credited their own individual accolades.

Due to her talent and skill, junior Yamile De Leon was named the first place Courtroom Artist in the Rio Grande Valley.

“It felt pretty nice [achieving that title] considering I didn’t expect to get a high rank, much less first,” De Leon said.

De Leon plans on putting her pencil to work at state to be the best and have a meaningful event.

“I’m looking forward to competing in state,” De Leon said. “While I am nervous, it’ll be a great experience nonetheless.”

Moreover, senior Chrisell Navarrete came out with the title of Best Attorney, and is humbled by the accomplishment.

“You feel relieved [winning] because we work a lot. It’s an honor [making regionals],” Navarrete said. “You compete against literally the whole Valley. I’m very satisfied with the outcome, mostly happy. I couldn’t have done it without my team behind me.”

Navarrete remains hopeful and confident for the upcoming major competition and her final showdown for the state title.

“I’m excited, I think we’ll do extremely well.”
